Will it work with my van?
It depends on the exact equipment, firmware and wiring. We start with Victron through Cerbo GX, compatible Shelly devices, Truma iNet X through a community integration, Starlink and Blink. Select your equipment above; a model review is required before a paid setup. Brand names are not a promise that every model is compatible.
Do I have to replace my existing equipment?
Usually the aim is to connect what you already own. A Pi runs Home Assistant and an ESP32 can bridge supported Bluetooth equipment. Some older or manual devices need extra hardware or cannot be controlled remotely.
What happens when there’s no internet?
The Pi and local Wi-Fi remain the centre of the system. Supported local controls continue to work. Cloud cameras, Alexa, remote access and online weather need internet. All hardware must remain powered.
Can I control it from anywhere?
With internet in the van and a suitable remote-access service, yes. We can help configure Home Assistant Cloud by Nabu Casa. Its subscription is purchased separately. Keep the Pi and router powered while you are away.
Can Alexa warn me about people outside?
Only if the camera and integration expose a supported person-detection event. This is not included as a guaranteed Blink feature. Ordinary motion and person detection are different; we confirm the available events first.
Is next-day hardware delivery included?
Hardware is bought directly from Amazon UK. Delivery depends on your postcode, stock, seller, order time and Prime eligibility. Confirm the delivery date on Amazon before placing your order.
How does remote setup work?
We deliver the entire service online. You follow our instructions to connect the equipment and provide internet access. You must be with the van during setup to make physical connections and help test controls. With your permission, we configure the software remotely. We do not visit your van or fit hardware.
Does VanHalo install wiring or safety equipment?
No. VanHalo provides remote software setup and connection instructions. You or your installer make all physical connections. Electrical alterations and gas work need an appropriately qualified installer. Existing safety controls stay in place. Smart alerts do not replace standalone smoke, CO or gas alarms.
What happens if the Pi loses power?
The dashboard and Pi-based automations stop. Original equipment controls remain the fallback where their installation supports independent operation. Restoring power may restart the Pi, but depleted batteries, network faults or damaged storage can prevent recovery. For an unattended van, plan a regulated supply, a measured power budget and a way for someone to check it locally.
What do I keep after setup?
Your Home Assistant administrator access and configuration stay with you. At handover, ask us to walk through your controls, backup download, recovery steps and any remaining device limitations. Keep a backup off the Pi before making later changes. Automatic cloud backups and managed updates are not included as a standing service.
What support is included?
The Founding Vans and Connected Van packages include 30 days of setup support and the revisions listed above. Later changes or troubleshooting are agreed separately. Remote help needs your permission and an internet connection; it is not a 24-hour monitoring service.
Can you add levelling, vehicle data or other equipment?
Send the exact model and the feature you want. Van levelling, OBD vehicle data, pump or valve control, rooftop air conditioning and local voice control need separate hardware and integration assessment. These are custom enquiries, not standard supported features. We do not currently provide a built-in campsite finder or vehicle-aware route planner.
